My Way De Solzen made the perfect start to his chasing career when registering a most impressive success in the Arena Leisure plc Beginners’ Chase at Lingfield.
Robert Thornton settled this year’s World Hurdle winner just in behind the early leaders but his mount found such a good rhythm that the pair had moved up to dispute the lead after jumping the fifth.
It was plain sailing for the 4-11 favourite from that point on as he measured every fence with superb accuracy and stormed clear of 50-1 chance Gentleman Jimmy to register a bloodless 14-length victory.
Thornton asked the Alan King-trained winner to quicken away upon entering the straight and he duly found another gear to dispel fears regarding his ability to prove effective over the two-mile trip.
VC Bet were especially impressed and reacted by cutting My Way De Solzen to 6-1 favourite (from 10-1) for the Arkle Challenge Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival next March.
