Fallon to quit Ireland for the season

Kieren Fallon will not be riding in Ireland again this season after deciding to go to Australia to prepare for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

Fallon is due to ride Aidan O’Brien’s Yeats in the November 7 event and the rider has decided to bypass the rest of the Irish season to ensure a thorough build-up at Flemington Park.

He told the Racing Post: “I travel over there tomorrow to prepare for Flemington and I’m hoping to be sitting up on Yeats either on Thursday or Friday this week.”

Fallon has yet to ride in the Melbourne Cup but he is hoping to gain some experience of the track in coming weeks.

“I’m really looking forward to the race and we’ve decided to come out in plenty of time to prepare,” he added.

“Hopefully I’ll get the chance to ride competitively around the track before the big one in three weeks’ time.”
