Hills enjoys Hollow victory
Hollow Ridge opened her account at the first time of asking when staying on best of all in division one of the Newvoicemedia Maiden Stakes at Newbury.
The daughter of Beat Hollow came widest of all under Richard Hughes and poked her nose in front in the closing stages of the seven-furlong contest.
Returned at 10-1, the Barry Hills-trained winner survived a stewards’ inquiry into interference in the final furlong and had a head and a short head in hand of Mr Napper Tandy and Athar.
“We weren’t worried about the soft ground as she has been working nicely on it at home,” said Hills’ son and assistant Charlie.
“We will see how she comes out of this before making any plans, but it is possible we will put her away.
“She will get further next year and will stay a mile and a quarter and possibly further.”
