Spinner Cesarewitch run in doubt

Leg Spinner, ante-post favourite for the totesport Cesarewitch, is “very doubtful” to run in the two-mile-two-furlong hike at Newmarket on Saturday week.

Having been out of action since winning the Ascot Stakes at York last June, the Irish gelding could only finish 10th in a handicap hurdle at Listowel a fortnight ago.

To that end, trainer Tony Martin is likely to give Leg Spinner more time before he is next seen on a racecourse.

“He ran disappointingly at Listowel and the way he ran, he wouldn’t be going to the Cesarewitch,” Martin told the Racing Post.

“It definitely wouldn’t be encouraging for me. It would be very doubtful he would be going anywhere for a while. You would have wanted him to finish in the first three to warrant a trip to the Cesarewitch and he ran too bad.

“We can’t put our finger on it, so we will just have to take a little break and reassess and go from there. We will back off and start afresh again.”
