Evie fine after Newmarket flop
Red Evie is reported to be a little sore but otherwise sound after her no-show in the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes on Saturday.
Michael Bell’s filly has proved a revelation this season and went into the Group One race at Newmarket in search of her eighth straight victory.
The daughter of Intikhab was never travelling for jockey Jamie Spencer, however, and was eventually eased down and allowed to come home in her own time.
“She is 100% sound and I think her run was probably just a combination of two factors,” explained Bell.
“She is just a tiny bit sore on the splint that bothered her in the summer and it was probably the effect of a long season, having been on the go since March.
“I think, predominantly, the reason she wasn’t travelling was that the splint may just have been irritating her but that should settle down and we’ll see how we go.”
Bell confirmed no decision has been made as to whether Red Evie remains in training for a four-year-old campaign next year.
“I have to talk to Terry Neill (owner) as I haven’t spoken to him about it yet but after that we shall make a plan,” he added.
