Reverence fine after Abbaye run

Eric Alston will map out a plan of attack for 2007 over the winter for star sprinter Reverence, who just failed to end his season in style at Longchamp.

The Nunthorpe and Betfred Sprint Cup winner signed off by finishing a creditable neck runner-up to Desert Lord in the Prix de l’Abbaye.

The dual Group One winner could not quite peg back Kevin Ryan’s charge on ground that was not ideal.

Alston was still proud of the five-year-old, however, and said: “He’s fine - he’s on his way home. He ran a blinder and they nearly broke the track record.

“We’ve very proud of him. He’s done absolutely great and he handled the ground. It’s just that he ran out of race, with it being a quick five furlongs.

“That’s it now for the season. Hopefully we’ll have more of the same next year. We haven’t got a plan picked out yet. We’ve got the winter to think about that one, I suppose.

“He’s effective over both five and six furlongs and on good ground he needs six actually. He’s been super for us.”
