Punters hit by Remedy

Osteopathic Remedy shocked both his connections and punters alike with his 40-1 victory in the opening race of Ayr’s Western meeting.

The Michael Dods-trained newcomer was friendless in the market for the Saga 105.2FM Sutter’s Flutter Maiden Auction Stakes as backers sent Eau Good off the even-money favourite.

Just as the latter looked set to score Osteopathic Remedy finished fast and late along the stand rail under Paul Hanagan to score by a neck from fellow outsider Doric Charm, with the market leader a length and a half back in third.

“That was a surprise,” said Dods.

“We bought him at the breeze-ups and he was a bit of a tearaway and we’ve just given him time to settle him down.

“He’s worked all right but to be honest we thought he wanted to be going a mile next year.

“This is certainly a shock to us. We didn’t expect it but he’s done it nicely enough and there will be more to come because he’s not the most mature horse in the world.”
