Dettori waits on Arc plans

Frankie Dettori is waiting to speak to Jeremy Noseda before making any decision about which horse he will ride in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Noseda has not been drawn on whether or not Sixties Icon, his impressive winner of Saturday’s Ladbrokes St Leger, will be supplemented for the all-aged European middle-distance championship at Longchamp.

And the Italian pilot has not had the time to think things through after his famous victory, especially since Godolphin are unlikely to have a horse in the October 1 mile-and-a-half showpiece.

Speaking at Goodwood, Dettori admitted: “I’m really not sure what is going to happen. I haven’t spoken to Jeremy and I suppose he is waiting for the dust to settle before making any decision. He was very impressive but we’ll have to see.”

Dettori took his family to Rome after the Classic success, and he quipped: “It was a great night – I finished last on my two rides there!”

He added: “It was wonderful to take the kids. Racing finished at midnight and there were chariot races – and before you ask, no I did not want to ride in them - those guys are so fast, they are all completely mad.

“Then there was an hour of fireworks and I eventually got to bed at 2am. I was up early and the kids were at the Coliseum in Rome at 10am this morning. We got to Goodwood at 12.30pm – I’m not going out on the town tonight, I’m going home!”
