Conditions at Haydock Park have deteriorated with the going ahead of the Betfred Sprint Cup meeting now described as soft, heavy in places.

The two-day fixture starts tomorrow with a six-race card, the Sprint Cup be the highlight of the action on Saturday.

Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright said: “We’ve had 23 millimetres since seven o’clock yesterday evening.

“We are soft, heavy in places but we appear to be through the worst. We are getting showers but they are punctuated by brief dry spells and as things stand we expect to race.

“There’s a limit to what the track can take. If it pitches in and gives us another inch we’d struggle. But that’s not what is forecast and the cloud appears higher.

“It’s a mixture now of dry spells and a bit more rain. We might get four or five millimetres in each of the next two days and we’d stand that.”
