Nakheel possible for weekend return
One-time Classic hope Nakheel could make his eagerly-awaited return to action in Saturday’s Betfred “Treble Odds On All Luckys” Superior Mile at Haydock.
The Mark Johnston-trained colt was a leading fancy for the Stan James 2000 Guineas after winning both of his juvenile starts, including a four-length romp in the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract.
A pelvic injury sustained in April ruled the Sadler’s Wells colt out of both the Guineas and Derby, but he is now ready to embark on the comeback trail.
Johnston said: “The horse is fine, very close to a run, and we might well take him to Haydock. He’s done plenty of work and is ready to go.”
Nakheel, who is owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, still holds an entry for the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes in October.
