Channon mulls Leger plans
Mick Channon has not ruled out the possibility of running both Youmzain and Championship Point in next month’s Ladbrokes St Leger.
Channon won Tuesday’s Great Voltigeur Stakes at York with Youmzain, while Championship Point weakened to finish in the ruck.
Both horses were among the 21 left in the final Classic at the forfeit stage and after consulting owner Jaber Abdullah, Channon will wait a few days before giving Youmzain the green light to run in the Leger.
Channon said: “I’m mystified about Championship Point. He’d been working well and although he was entitled to be a little rusty on his first outing since the Derby, I thought he’d finish closer.
“The funny thing is he’s come out of it fine and there seems to be nothing wrong with him.
“Youmzain is also fresh and has taken his race well but we’ll wait another week before making a final decision whether he runs.
“In principle I’m quite happy to run Championship Point as well.”
