Dettori strikes on doctor
Frankie Dettori got off to a winning start on the final day of the Ebor meeting at York, steering Doctor Brown to success in the £300,000 (€442,100) St Leger Yearling Stakes.
Dettori sent the 4-1 favourite to the front over a furlong out and looked to be heading for a comfortable victory until Michael Hills sent Prime Defender (11-2) in pursuit.
Although Doctor Brown drifted left under pressure and appeared to hamper Hills’ mount, who eventually finished third, he kept on to run out a length-and-a-half winner.
Geoff Huffer’s Cockney Rebel (6-1) ran a fine race in isolation down the middle of the track to finish second.
