Tony McCoy is expected back home in England on Saturday following surgery on his broken right wrist.

Britain’s champion jump jockey has been released from University College Hospital in Galway and faces several weeks on the sidelines.

He took a crashing fall from the ill-fated Sporting Limerick at the penultimate flight in the williamhill.ie Handicap Hurdle at Galway on Wednesday.

“The operation went well and he’s coming home tomorrow,” said McCoy’s personal assistant Gee Bradburne.

McCoy’s injury meant he missed the winning ride on Far From Trouble in the big race of the week, the William Hill Galway Plate.
