Newbury assignment for King

Baltic King will try to supplement his Royal Ascot success with victory in the Stan James Hackwood Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Hughie Morrison’s talented sprinter defied his 9st 10lb burden to authoritatively land the Wokingham Stakes almost four weeks ago, taking his career haul to seven.

“He is entered on Saturday and the plan is to run,” said Morrison.

“He is also in the Stewards’ Cup but I made the entry before he ran at Royal Ascot and he has since been reassessed.”

The six-year-old has done all of his winning over five and six furlongs but Morrison revealed a step up in trip is on the cards.

“His main target this year is the Prix Maurice de Gheest over six and a half furlongs. He is good over five and six but I think he might even get seven one day,” he added.
