Frosty reception at Ayr

There was plenty of confidence about the chance of Frosty Night in the Irvine Herald Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Ayr and he duly obliged in fine style under Joe Fanning.

There was plenty of confidence about the chance of Frosty Night in the Irvine Herald Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Ayr and he duly obliged in fine style under Joe Fanning.

The youngster had run with promise on his debut at Sandown, and with his rider clearly confident about the colt’s stamina, he sent him into the lead from the outset.

He set a steady pace but upped the tempo in the straight and soon drew clear, comfortably holding Steam Cuisine, who closed in the last furlong but was never going to trouble the 11-10 favourite, who had two lengths to spare.

Johnston’s representative Justin Buckham said: “That has shown how good he is. He is a nice big horse and that is why we have taken our time with him and waited for the seven-furlong races.

“He is so relaxed and has plenty of scope for improvement.”
