Spencer misses Curragh action
Jamie Spencer will miss his seven rides at the Curragh on Sunday after being stood down by the racecourse doctor at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon.
Spencer rode in the first three races at Headquarters but missed the mount on Nayyir in the Woodford Reserve Criterion Stakes after complaining of feeling unwell.
Newmarket’s racecourse doctor Andy Mason said: “Jaie hasn’t recovered from the effects of the food poisoning which caused him to miss Friday night’s meeting and he is dehydrated as a result.
“He is not fit to travel to the Curragh tomorrow and I have contacted Michael Turner, the Horseracing Regulatory Authority’s chief medical officer, to tell him to inform the authorities in Ireland.”
Spencer did not have a ride in the Budweiser Irish Derby but was engaged in all other races at the County Kildare track and was due to partner Espartano in the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks Railway Stakes.
