Tregoning issues Percy warning

Marcus Tregoning has admitted Sir Percy could sidestep possible runs in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes or Budweiser Irish Derby as he continues to recover from his Epsom exertions.

The Mark Of Esteem colt was a narrow winner of the Vodafone Derby earlier in the month prompting connections to point towards Sandown with their charge, who also finished second in the 2000 Guineas.

However, Tregoning has warned Sir Percy may need more time to recover from his Classic win as the horse returned “jarred up” as he did after Newmarket.

“Health-wise he looks great. Unfortunately like a lot of horses that come out of these big races, he is a bit jarred up again – the second time now,” he told Racing UK.

“I was talking about the Eclipse and the Irish Derby but we may need a little longer. I wouldn’t run him if I wasn’t 100% happy.”
