Wall up for Coronation
Chris Wall believes Wake Up Maggie deserves to take her chance in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot next Friday.
The three-year-old filly finished second to Jeremy in the Listed King Charles II Stakes last time having previously performed with great credit to finish fifth in the 1000 Guineas.
And despite Wall admitting this year’s renewal of the Coronation looks decidedly competitive, he believes the daughter of Xaar has earned her place in the line-up.
“It’s been so far so good,” he said. “She’s just got one more little piece of work to do before Ascot and if that goes according to plan then we’ll be finalising our plans after that.
“She ran really well at Newmarket over seven furlongs last time, arguably on ground that was not ideal, and it might be just our luck that the ground will be like a road at Ascot as she doesn’t go on that either!
“She should be alright though as she has run on fast ground before. The Guineas form is really beginning to stack up now. But obviously we realise the Coronation is going to be a really tough race.
“It will draw together all the best fillies from all over Europe, not just England But she deserves to take her chance.
“I am going to give her an entry in the Jersey Stakes and I’ll have a look at that as well but that will be pretty competitive in its own right.
“At this stage we are almost certainly going for the Coronation but if it does happen to cut up we will have the Jersey as an option.”
