Mulrennan savours Spinnaker success
Paul Mulrennan rode out his claim on Blue Spinnaker, trained appropriately by his boss Mick Easterby, in the Newton Investment Management Stakes at York.
The 24-year-old apprentice gave the 7-1 chance a patient ride to catch Look Again close home for a half-length call in the £25,000 contest.
Mulrennan said: “That’s my claim gone now – that’s clinched it. I rode my first winner in 2001 and that’s 95 now and it’s my fourth year with Mr Easterby.”
Easterby added: “He doesn’t want to let it go to his head, he needs to keep his feet on the floor.
“But he’s ridden this horse really well. I didn’t tell him how to ride him.
“I had doubts about the mile and a quarter because he’s an out-and-out miler but I was wrong – isn’t it nice to be wrong.”
