Seebald, winner of 11 races and over £350,000 in prize money for the Martin Pipe yard, has been retired.

Formerly a very smart novice chaser, he was second to Moscow Flyer in the 2002 Arkle and has been campaigned at the top level ever since.

Owned in partnership by footballers Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman, he also finished a short-head second to the great Best Mate in the Haldon Gold Cup in 2004.

“Seebald has been retired,” current trainer David Pipe told At The Races.

“He has been a great servant over the years. We wouldn’t mind some more like him but we just thought the time was right, he’s 11 now and we just thought the time had come.

“He ran well enough at Aintree and he’s still full of himself at home, we just felt he deserved a good retirement and he will be looked after by Tom Scudamore’s wife, Charlotte.”
