Junior on Ascot trail

Brian Meehan has issued an upbeat bulletin on stable star David Junior ahead of planned run at Royal Ascot next month.

The four-year-old won the Champion Stakes on his last start of 2005 before reappearing in March to easily land the Dubai Duty Free at Nad Al Sheba.

Meehan reports the Pleasant Tap colt to be in routine exercise in preparation for his Royal meeting date.

The trainer said: “At the moment, the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is the plan. We’ll stick with that plan but, like everything in this game, we’ll keep it flexible.

“He is not in full work but he is enjoying himself and is in great shape. He is cantering every day and helping out some other horses from time to time.

“David Junior is a horse who is going to continue to improve – I’m very lucky to have him. He is going to be really special. By the time he moves on to his second career, I think everybody will agree.”
