Derby options for Primary

Primary is likely to go for either the Vodafone Derby or the Italian version following his game victory in the Betfred Classic Trial.

The William Haggas-trained colt made all the running when holding The Last Drop by a neck in the Group Three contest over an extended mile and a quarter at Sandown.

“Primary came out of the race very well indeed. William was thrilled with him,” said Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing XXVI.

“We’re just working out now what to do with him. If we run him in the Derby it is probable we will run him in another trial. If we felt the Derby was not the right move then we may look to go straight to Italy.

“I suspect the Dante would certainly be a possibility. We are just letting the dust settle, have a rethink and look at the timings of the races.

“We will have to make the decision fairly soon as the trials are coming up shortly.”
