Innox on course for Gold run

Francois Doumen reported Innox to be none the worse for his fall in the Grand National ahead of a likely tilt at the Betfred Gold Cup on Saturday.

Doumen’s talented 10-year-old was a first-fence casualty in the John Smith’s-sponsored marathon at Aintree but has now recovered from that setback in time for the Grade Three contest at Sandown, for which he is a 8-1 favourite with the sponsors.

“He was a bit stiff and it took him a good week to get better after the fall,” the French handler told the Racing Post.

“I’m confident he didn’t have a hard race last time – except for the fall - and as he didn’t exhaust himself, he will be fresher that some of the horses we are competing against.

“Tony (McCoy) gets on so well with him and that will bring the best out of Innox.”
