Power ready for Italian test
Mick Channon will saddle his first Classic runner when Royal Power competes in the Premio Parioli, the Italian 2000 Guineas in Rome on Sunday.
The three-year-old completed his preparation when finishing runner-up to Asset in the Easter Stakes at Kempton on April 1.
Channon said: “Royal Power is a very nice horse. He had nowhere to go in England and I thought it was well worth taking him to Italy.
“The horse that beat us last time (Asset) is going for the English Guineas and they think an awful lot of him, so mine can’t be that bad.
“He has improved much throughout last season. He is a high-class horse and has run on soft and good ground.
“He is quite a handy horse, so I’m hopeful.”
Royal Power will be ridden by Ted Durcan in the 11-runner contest in Italy.
