Tabor: George will get a mile

Joint-owner Michael Tabor is confident his Stan James 2000 Guineas hope George Washington can stay the mile trip in the Newmarket feature on May 6.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt is a general 2-1 favourite to win the first English Classic of the season after he emerged a classy winner of both the Group One National Stakes and Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last term.

The three-year-old, who is unbeaten on his last four outings, has yet to race beyond seven furlongs but Tabor hopes stepping George Washington up in trip for the 2000 Guineas will play to his strengths.

He told Racing UK: “When you have a horse with that much talent you are very much on the edge but he’s hopefully a very special horse.

“As Aidan quite rightly says, when a horse has that much speed you’d be a little nervous, but I wouldn’t change him for anything.

“I hope that he’d get the mile and I think he will.”
