Stack chasing Guineas glory

Tommy Stack is hoping lightning strikes twice when he saddles Alexander Alliance in the Stan James 1000 Guineas on May 7.

The Cashel trainer sent out Las Meninas to lift the fillies’ Classic at Newmarket on her seasonal reappearance in 1994 and he is treading the same path with the daughter of Danetime.

“She’ll go straight there because she wants good ground and the chance of getting that in a prep run in early April is pretty slim,” said Stack’s son and assistant, Fozzy.

Like Las Meninas, Alexander Alliance raced only twice as a juvenile, finishing second to Aidan O’Brien’s Art Museum at the Curragh in September and then winning a Listed race there the following month.

Stack added: “She was impressive when she won her Listed race at the Curragh at the backend and her preparation is going good so far. She’s in good shape and has wintered well.”

The filly, a half-sister to Listed sprint winner Ruby Rocket and is currently a 20-1 chance with the sponsors.
