Captain Hurricane is set return from a lengthy absence in the Cammidge Trophy at Redcar on Saturday.

The 2004 July Stakes winner was last seen contesting the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot at York, where he finished 14th behind Cape Of Good Hope.

But the four-year-old has been pleasing on the Newmarket gallops and is poised to become trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam’s first runner on the turf in 2006 when lining up in this weekend’s six-furlong Listed race.

Chapple-Hyam told his official website: “Captain Hurricane has been off the track since last June when he was injured at York.

“But he is going really nicely now and I couldn’t be happier with him.

“He worked over six furlongs on Tuesday morning under Alan Munro, who will ride him on Saturday.

“Although the horse is likely to just need this run, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went close.”
