May blossoms at Lingfield

Love In May claimed the honour of being the first two-year-old winner of the year when scoring for Martin Dwyer on the final day of the all-weather season at Lingfield.

The 8-1 chance may have been bought for only 3,000 but she looked the part here, tracking the early pace before pouncing inside the final furlong to beat the gambled-on Spoof Master by a length and a quarter.

Favourite Carlitos Spirit was never on terms with his rivals and finished back in fourth.

“I am hoping that she is a good yardstick because I’d like to think that I have a couple at home who are a little bit ahead of her,” said winning trainer Stan Moore.

“I couldn’t believe it when I bought her so cheaply because she has a decent pedigree and looked a nice filly.”

Love In May will not be following the traditional route of running in next week’s Brocklesby Stakes at Redcar next Saturday as Moore resisted the temptation to enter her.

“She is going to need a bit of time now so she will have a break and then come back later in the season when her ultimate aim will be Tattersalls Sales race at the Curragh,” he added.
