Oscar calls the tune at Bangor

Tom Scudamore was particularly pleased the meeting at Bangor passed the fourth inspection when partnering Call Oscar to land the opening EBF “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle .

Colin Tinkler’s charge, sent off the 85-40 favourite, engaged in a battle with Unjust Law in the home straight and was handed the initiative when the latter fluffed his lines at the final flight.

This allowed Call Oscar and Scudamore to go on to score by a length and a half.

Hibernian appeared to find the ground too quick and was not given a hard time in finishing third, a further five lengths back.

“I thought it was lovely ground, although I would say mine handles the top of the ground,” said Scudamore.

Tinkler was represented by his assistant Peter Magon, who said: “He’s improved from race to race and is a young horse who will get better.”
