Windrush not a Classic certainty

Baron Windrush is not yet certain to bid for back-to-back victories in Saturday’s totesport Classic Chase at Warwick.

Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is keen to see the results of routine tests on the eight-year-old before committing to a run in Saturday’s £35,000 (€51,000) contest over three miles and five furlongs.

“We’re not sure about him yet. We are just doing some routine tests on him to make sure he’s all right,” he said.

Baron Windrush, who defeated D’Argent by two and a half lengths in the Classic Chase 12 months ago, was pulled up behind Therealbandit on his seasonal debut at Wetherby on Boxing Day.

The Naunton handler is, however, likely to be represented in the stamina test by Shardam, who was pulled up the following day in the Welsh Grand National won by L’Aventure in his first race for 20 months.

“I think he will run,” he added.
