Durack receives injury boost

Seamus Durack’s rehabilitation from injury has finally been given a boost after he successfully underwent surgery on Monday.

The Irish jockey injured his right leg and hip in a fall at Towcester last May and was admitted to the London Clinic to have a rod removed from the femur he fractured.

Durack, who has broken a leg three times in four seasons, also had further surgery on his troublesome hip.

The jockey has had three operations since his fall and was released from his latest hospital stay this morning.

Durack is now confident of making a return to competitive riding by June.

“The operation went well and I’m quite happy,” he said. “Hopefully there were no complications but obviously you can never be too sure.

“It depends how things go but I’m hoping to be back race-riding in June - I’ll hopefully be riding out earlier than that though.

“I will be seeing a specialist in a month and he will be able to see whether things have settled down or not.

“I’ll then need to go for another couple of operations in March to get my hip washed out but they should only be minor.

“It’s been one thing after another, but hopefully there could now be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.”
