Frost fears for Musselburgh

Officials at Musselburgh are hoping forecasts of a cold snap this weekend prove wide of the mark.

Officials at Musselburgh are hoping forecasts of a cold snap this weekend prove wide of the mark.

The East Lothian track is due to race on Sunday but will stage a precautionary inspection at 3pm tomorrow.

Clerk of the course Anthea Morshead said: “We’re absolutely fine as we stand, but we’re told we’ll get a minus two, minus three in the ground, frost tonight, and tomorrow the temperature is only going to come up to plus one or two.

“We’re then forecast a minus five for Saturday night, and on Sunday they say we’ll still only be minus two at noon.

“With that sort of forecast we have to flag up that we might have a problem. If we’re not raceable tomorrow afternoon and are still forecast minus five on Saturday night, then we would have very little chance of racing. But we’ll just have to play it by ear.”
