This afternoon’s meeting at Plumpton goes ahead after officials passed an early-morning precautionary inspection.

Despite overnight temperatures reaching minus-three degrees, clerk of the course Mark Cornford brought forward an 8.30am inspection to give the seven-race card, which begins at 12.25am, the go-ahead.

“There is still a bit of frost around but the sun is shining and we are expecting temperatures of around eight degrees this afternoon,” he explained.

“It’s obviously very good news and we should be clear of frost by about 11am; we are going for it.”

The going is currently good to soft at the East Sussex venue.
