Dobbin Breeze doubt

Tony Dobbin faces a race against time to be fit to ride Brooklyn Breeze in the Paddy Power Gold Cup after injuring his shoulder in a fall at Taunton.

Hospital x-rays have revealed nothing is broken but the jockey has been left “very sore” after being unseated from Raheel at the first flight in the South West Racing Experience Selling Handicap Hurdle.

“Tony will definitely not be riding at Newcastle tomorrow and is doubtful for Saturday. The good news is nothing is broken,” said his agent Richard Hale.

“He will be having plenty of physio tomorrow and we’ll take it from there. It is painful, he’s very sore and it may be he has to take a few days off. We shall have to see.”

Should Dobbin be sidelined, Jim Crowley is likely to come in for the ride on Brooklyn Breeze in the big race at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Trainer Len Lungo said: “Thankfully Tony’s injury is not as bad as was first feared. Obviously it’s short notice to change jockeys but Jim Crowley will probably ride if Tony can’t, although I’ll have to check it with the owners first.”

Brooklyn Breeze, who is as low as 7-1 for the £110,000 (€163,700) handicap chase on the second day of the Open meeting, made a pleasing reappearance when winning over hurdles at Aintree three weeks ago.
