All-clear for Beef Or Salmon

A bang on the head was revealed as the reason for Beef Or Salmon’ withdrawal from last Sunday’s Leopardstown November Handicap.

However, after a medical check-up, Michael Hourigan’s star chaser was given the all-clear.

Hourigan had re-routed Beef Or Salmon to Leopardstown to get a run into him after he had to miss his intended start in Saturday’s James Nicholson Wine Merchant Champion Chase at Down Royal, whch was abandoned due to a security alert.

“He hit his head either in the stable or in the horsebox and had a trickle of blood in his nostril,’ the trainer told the Racing Post.

“It could have been from the previous day as there was a lot of hustle and bustle getting out of Down Royal racecourse.

“I didn’t want to say anything until we got him fully checked out. We sent him for a complete check and thankfully he got a clean bill of health.”

The nine-year-old is expected to be seen next in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on November 19.
