Von Origny pleases on chase debut

Von Origny, a smart novice hurdler last season, was a pleasing winner of his first outing over fences at Market Rasen.

Sent off the 11-10 favourite on account of a handy weight allowance and his wins at Bangor Wetherby, Henry Daly’s gelding took to the bigger obstacles like a duck to water in the Racing UK On Channel 432 Novices’ Chase.

He made most of the running under Richard Johnson, jumping beautifully and quickening away from Nadover when challenged at the last to record a three-length success.

“He’s a nice horse”, said Johnson. “As just a four-year-old it was nice to see him jump like that first time.”

Noel Fehily was in fine form at the Lincolnshire circuit, notching up a 117-1 treble, starting with Moustique de L’Isle (5-2) for Chris Bealby in the Bruce And Joe Carr Memorial Trophy Handicap Chase.

The rider’s other two winners came for boss Charlie Mann, firstly with Nathos (11-4), who easily won the Market Rasen Tattersalls And Rails Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle.

Hoh Viss (8-1) then overturned the well-fancied Lennon, despite a long absence, to take division two of the Circus Sunday Novices’ Hurdle by five lengths.

“A good day, it doesn’t happen very often,” said Mann.

“Hoh Viss was third to Made In Japan, who went on to win the Triumph Hurdle. He’s had two years off and we’ve been very patient with him. I thought he would need it today but he’s a very nice horse.”

Conditional riders Brian Hughes and Lee Vickers were both banned for a day (November 17) after going past the marker poles before the start of the Book Online@marketrasenraces.co.uk Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle.

Vickers was second on 50-1 shot Crimson Beau in the race won by Ivana Illyich, while Hughes was unplaced on Rockpiler.
