All-the-way win for Magern

Ollie Magern ran his rivals ragged with an all-the-way win in the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

The 11-4 favourite continued the fine form of trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies despite having his first race since February.

Ridden by Carl Llewellyn, he stayed on strongly to beat Kingscliff by a length and a quarter, with Take The Stand a further length and a half away in third. They were the only finishers.

Llewellyn coul hardly control Ollie Magern as the horse almost bolted to the first obstacle and last year’s winner Grey Abbey could not get to the front as he powered from fence to fence.

Grey Abbey lost his place after the fourth-last and was pulled up two out.

That left just Kingscliff and Take The Stand to try and peg back the leader but neither could get close enough as Ollie Magern kept up the gallop to record an impressive victory.
