Soft ground expected at Belmont
Soft going is predicted on the turf course for the Breeders’ Cup at Belmont Park on Saturday.
Heavy rain has hit the New York track in recent weeks but the forecast is for fine weather up to the meeting, with the course expected to dry out.
Speaking from America, Rolly Hoyt of the Daily Racing Form told At The Races: “The rain has completely stopped.
“The ground is still very wet around here but it looks like we are in good shape for avoiding any wet weather for the rest of the week.
“The rain we got on Wednesday has drifted away and there doesn’t appear to be any significant precipitation on the horizon.
“It is now a matter of how quickly it can dry out now.
“We’ve had a lot of rain around here in the last two or three weeks and this turf course is certainly going to be soft, more like European horses are used to.
“As far as the dirt track goes, it should dry out quite nicely.”
