Yarmouth gets the green light

Racing at Yarmouth will definitely go ahead after the course passed an inspection at 7am.

Six millimetres of overnight rain was not enough to force Yarmouth officials to abandon the meeting despite a band of heavy rain sweeping the nation on Monday.

The going at Yarmouth for the seven-race meeting, which begins at 1.50pm, is heavy, soft in places.

“It’s perfectly acceptable ground as we didn’t have a great deal of rain on Monday night,” explained Yarmouth clerk of the course Charlie Moore.

“It’s stopped raining and what with the warm breeze blowing across the track, things could dry out even more.”

The adverse conditions have already affected racing this week as Monday’s Leicester gathering was called off, with today’s fixture at Catterick going the same way following a 4.15pm inspection yesterday.

Racing on Wednesday at Nottingham will also be subject to a 7.30am inspection today.
