Gold blow for Meehan

Ann Summers Gold has met with a setback and will miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Saturday week.

The Brian Meehan-trained youngster was found to be unsound after pulling a muscle.

“She has got a slight muscle pull and it would be too much to ask her to ship out there and then run,” Meehan said.

“She was bought to continue her racing career in North America and I imagine she will still go there at some stage.

“It is very disappointing news, it’s been a hell of a year for the stable and to finish off with a Breeders’ Cup runner would have been something special for everyone.”

She would have been Meehan’s first runner at the American spectacular, held this year at Belmont Park, and was to have been ridden by Frankie Dettori.

The filly was bought by American Paul Reddam from Gold Group International after she had finished runner-up to Prince Of Light in the Group Three Sirenia Stakes at Newmarket last month on only her second start.
