Magern heading for Wetherby

Ollie Magern, winner of last season’s Grade One Feltham Novices’ Chase, is to kick off the campaign in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday week.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ seven-year-old was one of the star finds of last term but cracked a cannonbone in his off-hind leg just a week before the Cheltenham Festival, where he was likely to run in the Gold Cup.

He has since had surgery to have screws inserted in his leg and will return in the West Yorkshire track’s Grade Two event.

“He’ll start off next week in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby,” Twiston-Davies told The Times.

“After that we’ll go for the Betfair Chase at Haydock and take them all on.”
