O'Brien favourite for Post honours

Aidan O’Brien is a 13-8 chance to land the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday, the final Group One contest of the season in Britain.

The master of Ballydoyle was responsible for five of the 11 possible runners at the confirmation stage and Cashmans think he can add to his successes with Brian Boru (2003) and High Chaparral (2001).

Beresford Stakes winner Septimus heads the O’Brien squad along with Prix Morny second and July Stakes winner Ivan Denisovich.

Dylan Thomas and Arabian Prince, second and third in the Autumn Stakes at Salisbury last time, could also line up together with the once-raced Mountain.

Michael Stoute, who is odds-on to secure his eighth trainers’ title after opening up a six-figure lead over O’Brien, is set to have a runner after supplementing Best Alibi.

Owner Maktoum Al Maktoum has stumped up the £17,500 (€25,600) fee to add the King’s Best colt to the field after his win in a Leicester maiden last week.

The first three home in the Royal Lodge Stakes, John Gosden’s Leo, the Neville Callaghan-trained Kilworth and Kevin Ryan’s Palace Episode, could do battle again.

Newbury maiden winner Hazeymm and Mark Johnston’s unbeaten Winged Cupid complete the line-up.
