George Washington will miss the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket after connections decided the ground was unsuitable.

George Washington will miss the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket after connections decided the ground was unsuitable.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien and jockey Kieren Fallon walked the track before racing and found the going, which is described as good to soft with good ground in places, would not bring out the best in the dual Group One winner.

Fallon said: “The ground is on the slow side.”

The six-times champion jockey will now replace Eddie Ahern aboard O’Brien’s other runner, Horatio Nelson.
