Alkaased ready for Champion test
Alkaased is back to full health after a minor setback and ready to return to the track in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday week.
Luca Cumani’sfive-year-old, second in the Prix Foy on his most recent start, was a late withdrawal from last Sunday’s Prix de l’Ar de Triomphe after a small cut became infected.
“He’s fully recovered, in great form and is highly likely to run in the Champion, though not if the ground came up soft,” said Cumani.
The local trainer added he was not concerned about Alkaased dropping back to 10 furlongs, having been running over further for the last two seasons.
Alkaased has landed both the the Jockey Club Stakes and the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud this year, as well as finishing second in the Coronation Cup.
