Yeats poised for Woodbine assignment

Yeats will bypass the Melbourne Cup in favour of a tilt at the Canadian International on October 23.

Aidan O’Brien had been mulling over the possibility of sending his talented four-year-old to Australia after he finished fourth behind Collier Hill in the 14-furlong Irish Field St Leger last month.

But connections will now swerve the proposed assignment Down Under and instead prime the Sadler’s Wells colt for the Grade One contest at Woodbine.

“We’ve decided to send Yeats to Canada rather than to Australia as we feel that the Woodbine race fits better into our uture plans for the horse,” O’Brien told the Racing Post.

Yeats has won four of his seven races to date including a facile victory in the Coronation Cup at Epsom in June.
