Mubtaker set for seasonal break
Mubtaker is unlikely to run again this season following his outing in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The eight-year-old failed to match his second place in 2003 when he finished ninth behind Hurricane Run in the Longchamp showpiece on Sunday.
“He’s still on his way home but he’ll be fine,” said trainer Marcus Tregoning.
“We’ll see how he is. There’s a Group One race in Milan in two weeks’ time, but the likelihood is he won’t run again this season.
“Whether he stays in training for another year depends on what everyone thinks.”
Tregoning believes the race did not go Mubtaker’s way but the Silver Hawk entire, who went to Paris on the back of a hat-trick of victories, has retained all of his old sparkle.
“The race did not pan out for him yesterday,” added the Lambourn trainer.
“Scorpion set him off a bit early when he ranged alongside him and his run just petered out.
“Had he been able to finish his race he may have been fourth or fifth but it was a very good Arc.
“I don’t think he’s lost any of his ability. I believe he’s as good as ever.”
