Next year’s Budweiser Irish Derby will be worth a total of €1.5 million after a major cash injection to the Curragh Classic.

The track and Anheuser-Busch, brewers of Budweiser, announced a new multi-year sponsorship deal for the 12-furlong race earlier in the season and the Group One contest has now received a further boost with the extra prize money.

Paul Hensey, general manager at the Curragh, said: “We are delighted to be able to increase the prize fund by €200,000 which will ensure the race maintains its status as one of Europe’s most sought after prizes.”

The 2006 Irish Derby is scheduled for July 2.
