Fallon hoping for Hurricane improvement

Kieren Fallon believes Hurricane Run will be a “different horse” in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe from the one that won his trial last Sunday.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt did not impress everyone when taking the Prix Niel over the big-race course and distance at Longchamp in his first race since winning the Irish Derby in June.

“With the way Andre trains, he wouldn’t have been tuned for that race and he’s left a lot to improve on. I think we’ll find a different horse on Arc day,” Fallon told At The Races.

“He’s a lovely big horse but still very much a baby and still learning. We probably won’t see the best of him until next year.

“He has some habits like Montjeu had, running around a bit when he got to the front as there was nothing really in the race and nothing to lead him.”

Hurricane Run, bought by Michael Tabor and Coolmore just before his Irish Classic success, is favourite at around 11-4 for the Arc on October 2.

The French colt beat Scorpion, another horse Tabor has a major share in, at the Curragh and he is generally available at 10-1 for the Arc following his brave all-the-way success in the St Leger on heavy ground at Doncaster last Saturday.

“Both horses have come on a ton since then, they are both different horses now from then but Scorpion would have improved a lot since the Irish Derby,” added Fallon.

“For him to be able to win on heavy ground like that was incredible.

“He’s a fast, top-of-the-ground horse and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horse go from one extreme he likes, the fast ground, to heavy and performing as well as he did. I thought it was a great performance.”
