Berry's hot streak continues

Picot De Say finally got off the mark to gave in-form trainer John Berry another success when taking the J & H Signs Claiming Stakes at Yarmouth.

The three-year-old gelding had mustered a couple of place finishes in his previous nine starts but he topped those efforts when readily running out a three-length winner from Desperation.

Berry’s charge, a 9-2 shot, was never far away in the extended 11-furlong contest and came to lead under Jimmy Quinn at the two-furlong pole.

The pair zipped by the disappointing favourite Dawn At Sea and raced away to provide Berry with his third winner from five runners inside the last 10 days.

“This is made very special by the fact he is the first winner I’ve trained by Largesse, who was our stable star a few years ago,” said Berry.

“I’ve trained three by him and this is the first one to win. I actually trained the dam as well, so this has given me a lot of pleasure.”
