Fallon goes for goal

Kieren Fallon has come in for the plum spare ride on Texas Gold at Doncaster on Thursday after the horse’s regular partner Martin Dwyer was forced to delay his comeback from the injury list.

Dwyer rode out for Marcus Tregoning but complained his back was still not 100 per cent, prompting trainer Willie Muir to engage Fallon for the Scarbrough Stakes.

Fallon clicked when Texas Gold landed a gamble in a valuable handicap at Haydock last month and Muir, who is Dwyer’s father-in-law, said: “Martin said he had a job pulling a horse up this morning and he was still not quite right.

“He is the ultimate professional and I respect him for his honesty. After he told me, I rang Kieren and he’s a great substitute to have as this horse goes better for jockeys which have ridden him before.”
